Ad van Denderen (1943, Zeist) has worked as a photojournalist for publications including Vrij Nederland, NRC-Handelsblad, GEO, Stern and The Independent magazine. He is best known for his confrontational Go No Go project, for which he received the Visa d'Or and The Care Award. For Go No Go, he spent 13 years photographing the 'modern nomads' who attempt to force their way into Fort Europe, meeting walls of incomprehension and inhumane procedures along the way. The book was published by Actes Sud, Mets & Schilt, Lunwerg Editores, Edition Braus and Paradox. In September 2008, the first schools will start the educational programme about migration that has been developed alongside 'Go No Go'.
Van Denderen has also won several other important prizes for his work, including the oeuvre prize from the Fonds voor Beeldende Kunsten, Bouwkunst en Vormgeving (The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture) in 2007/2008. He previously published a book about Palestine (Peace in The Holy Land, 1997) and Welkom in Suid-Afrika, a book on apartheid, in 1991. His work can be found in a number of collections, including those of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The National Media Museum, Bradford (UK) (formerly known as the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television) and the Centre National de l'Audiovisuel (Luxembourg). His work is frequently exhibited internationally. Ad van Denderen is a member of the Vu agency in Paris.
